Words have meaning and names have power

Cultural predelictions keep the Firrerreo isolated on their homeworld more often than not. In addition to their clannish social structure, their beliefs that speaking a sentient's name aloud gives one power over it don't leave much incentive to travel among beings that use names as a casual form of address, trading and taking power without even realizing it. But as in all things, there are always notable exceptions.

Kirath's mother adopted a simple pseudonym when she left for the stars - hoping to extend some diplomatic connections to other worlds in order to boost her clan's ailing economic status. It was a succesful venture for some time, until - when Kirath was ten years old - her mother vanished inexplicably trying to negotiate trade routes to Firrerre's one Imperial-controlled spaceport.

Packing up the family's roots, her father went following in search of his wife. Taking his young daughter along, rather than leaving her in the care of a clanmate, he began introducing her, when he had to, as 'Copper' - choosing the Basic word due to the color of her hair. The pair spent nearly a year crammed into stuffy holds of transport frigates, combing the places Kirath's mother had spoken of visiting and slowly exhausting their credit reserves.

Finally, on the Smuggler's Moon of Nar Shaddaa, they found themselves stranded, due to a political battle between a Hutt crimelord and Imperial authorities trying to stake claim in the Corellian Sector's spaceport that led to the severe raising of transport taxes. Settling into what they felt would be a temporary arrangement, Kirath's father left her alone in their small apartment in the underlevels one morning, to go entreat with one of the Hutt authorities for information on his still-missing wife, as well as a possible way to continue his search. He never came home.

As a penniless orphan in one of the most concentratedly dangerous planets in the galaxy, Copper somehow managed not to starve to death or find herself sold into slavery. She attributes this, partially, to believing that her parents are both dead, leaving noone alive that knows her true name. Scrounging in Nar Shaddaa's undercity led her to make connections with a local swoop gang; few people, particularly a child, can survive on the Smuggler's Moon for any time without protection of some sort.

Now in her late teens, Copper is firmly placed within her small gang's hierarchy. The Drexls (the name came as a suggestion from a gambler who haunts the spacer bars) are a splinter group from her original crew, with a small stretch of prime territory carved out in the levels beneath Nar Shaddaa's primary spaceport. An average racer, she tends not to participate in anything other than friendly competition, preferring to cheer her adoptive family on from the sidelines. When not tearing around with her friends, she spends her time combing the spaceport itself, trying to pick up on information on rival gangs, planetary or galactic happenings.
